National Plenary of the Peoples’ Summit Towards COP30

At CESIR/CONTAG in Brasília, the public launch of the Peoples’ Summit took place, bringing together social movements and networks to reaffirm their shared struggles and develop a common political agenda. At this event, the Operational Secretariat and the Amazonian Committee were established, and discussions about the Summit’s role at COP30 took place. The Principles Charter was also launched, galvanizing support to strengthen the movement.

At COP28 in Dubai, Brazilian social movements and organizations handed a letter to President Lula, reaffirming their commitment to creating an autonomous civil society process, the Peoples’ Summit, for COP30 in Brazil in 2025. The delivery was attended by around 130 representatives, including the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, and the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho.

Towards COP30: Brazilian Social Movements and Networks Creating a Common Path

At the Franciscano Center for Evangelization and Culture in Brasília, around 40 representatives from various social movements and networks gathered to discuss the role of civil society in COP30. This meeting emphasized the need for a unified narrative that captures the diversity of Brazil’s biomes and peoples. It also marked the start of drafting the Peoples’ Summit political declaration, which will be formally launched at COP28.
